Original
Square piano, John Broadwood & Son
This square piano was built by the Broadwood firm in London in 1794. Although it still uses the English single action mechanic, it has been augmented by improvements made by Broadwood, making it easier to play and louder, with larger hammers and a new underdamper system, which was patented in 1784. The compass is 5 octave from FF-f''', and there are no hand stops or pedals. This piano was restored by Michael Cole in 2005.
